Pisón de Fondón

This cosy little house, which was used long ago to process "escanda" (a special variety of cereal that grows in the mountains) is located in the quiet village of Villandás.
It keeps all the charm of its country setting; this is certainly enhanced by the natural and ecological content of the materials used for its restoration, the magnificent surroundings and the lovely decoration.

We have preserved the stone with which it was built all around the outside, and it can still be seen in most of the inside, while ecological paints have been used on the rest of the walls. The ceilings and floors are made of chestnut wood applied with ecological oils and dyes. A large part of the furniture is antique, or restored by using ecological oils and wax.

Although we don’t use solar energy in the house, we are economically involved with a firm which is creating a plant of this kind.

There are two floors.
On the higher floor, we can find two double rooms and full bathroom facilities. The bed clothes are mainly made of ecological cotton and linen, feather eiderdowns and pure wool blankets.

On the ground floor you can find the kitchen, which is fully equipped with an oven, fridge, washing machine, and so on, and the sitting room, which has a fireplace, TV and DVD and looks on to a patio of about 95 sq.metres where you can enjoy peace and quiet, whith wooden outdoor furniture.

You have at your disposal small library with a lot of books about the environment, ecology, natural details about Asturias, cooking and literature in general.

You can start the day with our wholesome and delicious breakfast made with natural and organic products, and which is so varied that there will be a completely different one each day.

Its location in the centre of Asturias makes it ideal if you want to go anywhere in the region.

It is very close to the protected beauty spots of Pico Caldoveiro, 4 Kms from the Old Roman Road, 10 Kms from de Maravio Mountain Pass, 20 kms from Somiedo Natural Park and 30 kms from the Bear Track. All these are places of outstanding natural beauty.

The village of Villandás itself and its surroundings have everything that even the most demanding tourist could wish for. There are woods nearby which have oaks, beeches, chestnut and ash trees. It is not necessary to use the car for rides through natural areas. You can also watch and even take part in agricultural and farming activities which are carried out in the village, if you want, and enjoy making bread or simply relaxing and resting in this most charming and peaceful place.

It is easy to get to Grado from Oviedo on the motorway and Oviedo is clearly signed from Santander (ferry) and Avilés (airport). From Grado take the AS-311 to Tameza. After 8 km you turn right in San Pedro on the GR-4 where there is a sign for Villandás and Restiello. After 9km there is a turn to the left signposted Villandás. When you turn into the village there is a wooden sign for the house: look for the wooden doors!
